CURRENT ACTIVITIES

International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), April 1996-present. I have been involved as a consultant to or employee of IREX for the past decade.  Currently I am Chief of Party for the Serbian Media Assistance Program in Belgrade, Serbia.  I am leading the team implementing a USAID funded program that is strengthening local media and helping to improve the legal environment for independent media in Serbia.  Past work for IREX has included:

Chinook Concert Broadcasters, Anchorage, October 1987-Present, Board of Directors and co-owner. Chinook Concert Broadcasters owns KLEF in Anchorage, a classical music station. (Chinook also ran KUDO, a news talk station, until April, 2008, I managed KUDO from Sept 2004 to March 2006).

 

PAST EXPERIENCE:

Fulbright Lecturer:  1995-1996; Taught journalism at Tirana University, Albania.

Coordinator, CoastAlaska, Juneau, AK: Oversaw consolidation of operations for six public radio stations in Southeast Alaska.  .  1994-1995

Senior Advisor to Radio Tirana, Albania.  1993-1994.  I advised on organization and legal issues and conducted training for managers and broadcasters.

General Manager and CEO, Raven Radio Foundation, (KCAW FM) Sitka, AK.  1980- 1993:  Founding manager, I led the team that built and managed Sitka's public radio station. 

Station Manager, KTOO FM, Juneau, AK.  1980.

President and Program Director Northern Community Radio, Grand Rapids, MN.  1970-1980.   Headed a project that built public station KAXE-FM.

INTERNATIONAL REPORTING:  I took several leaves from Raven Radio to report for the Alaska Public Radio Network.  Work included reporting on the opening of the Russian Far East, (1990-1991), the Czech elections (1990), and an Alaska church delegation to Nicaragua (1985).
