Pest is a cat

She lurks at the corners of our lives and when we least expect it she pounces, like when we are sleeping or working on the computer.  Hence her name.

Actually her name is Pestilence, one of the four housecats of the apocalypse. 

Rich found her on the radio, there was a "muskeg message" about a litter of abandoned kittens, named after the 4 horseman, needing new homes and new names.  Rich picked Famine and, true to his promise, changed her name to the name of her brother.  Brian thought that his father getting a cat was a sign of midlife crisis.  Now Pest mostly lives with Brian in Minnesota but makes occasional flying trips home to Alaska, particularly around the Christmas holidays.  We are now in negotiations with Alaska Airlines to get her a frequent flyer number.  On the last trip Kevin carried her and reports that she is a great "chick magnet."

While Pest is a beautiful cat, with long hair and blue eyes, and while she can be a fine companion, she is a terrible mouser.  Brian once put her in his bathtub, where there was a mouse.  Pest helped the mouse out of the tub.  She does like to stalk Christmas wrapping.
