The Sitka Boat Parade is an annual Christmas tradition. Above, the Sitka Pioneer's home overlooking the channel. Turn around and you can see the boars. For four nights they parade north and south of the town, giving homes along the road system a good view. These pictures are form December 13, 2003. On December 20 the boat parade and the Landlubbers' Parade (see below) were supposed to meet at the harbor but the weather was such that the boats didn't parade. One year I broadcast live from one of the boats and asked people to blink their lights on and off as we went past. They did. On December
The Landlubbers' Parade Boat owners made designs with lights on frames to place on their boats, like the stars on the boats above. Pickup truck owners decided they wanted to parade too. In fact some of the light displays on the beds of trucks, in other years, floated in the boat parade.
